Strengthening Collaboration with Growers

As a retailer, you know that planning and communication with your growers is becoming increasingly important due to numerous economic and agronomic factors. Lenders want to see business plans and budgets, while you need to know what traits are planted and how much product will be needed in order to make timely purchases at the best price.

Technology can help you share data with and among farmers and suppliers to plan ahead and collaborate on in-season management practices.

Forward Planning
Using software like Agworld, you can work with a grower to prepare a comprehensive plan and budget while providing break even costs at different yield scenarios. Templates can be prepared with different products so you can choose to load a base plan for different crops or management styles. For example, irrigated corn can have a different template than dryland corn. Lower-yielding acres can have a different template than higher-yielding acres and so on.

Once created, the grower can use the budget and plan to guide conversations with his or her lender. And you can also use the reports to make timely purchases so product is on hand when needed.

In-Season Communication
Agworld allows you to easily generate reports for what hybrids/varieties are planted in which fields. This will be very important as we move into new traits that have specific management requirements such as Xtend® soybeans and related strictly regulated herbicide applications.

The software allows seamless communication throughout the growing season. For example, after planting, Agworld has a scouting function agronomists can use to send reports from their iPads to the growers’ phones. If an application is needed, the agronomist can initiate it at the field. Once the agronomist sends a report, a message goes to the grower, an order sheet goes to the dispatcher and a mix sheet goes to the applicator. After the application, the spray report is sent to accounting and to the grower. Timely communication in all directions increases efficiency and productivity for everyone.

Check out the WinField United ag tech team’s Agworld review for more information about using the tool to increase collaboration with growers and within your organization.
