MasterLock® surfactant arrives for western Canadian fungicide application

Sprayer in field
Western Canada has experienced high levels of rain in recent days and the disease-friendly environment has growers thinking about fungicide applications. WinField® United Canada has just released the perfect pairing for fungicide applications – MasterLock®.

MasterLock is a non-ionic surfactant (NIS) combining new DropTight™ surfactant technology with the proven drift control of InterLock®.

“The purpose of a NIS is to improve sticking, spreading and wetting. MasterLock’s DropTight surfactant technology optimizes droplet adhesion,” explains Dave Van Dam, director of business development and eastern sales with WinField United Canada.

“When droplets are sticking and spreading, not beading up and rolling off the leaf, you will improve your coverage. Wetting is a crucial factor as well; the droplets stay wetter longer, so the plant can utilize the active ingredient, when it dries up on the leaf it’s not able to get into the plant.”

The second half of MasterLock’s one-two punch is InterLock technology. Through InterLock’s reduced drift and increased deposition properties, MasterLock is getting more active ingredient onto the target.

“By creating the right droplet size that is large enough to get down into the crop canopy, you get the active ingredient where the diseases are growing and hiding under cover,” says Van Dam.

With many growers considering a fungicide application to protect the yield potential of their crop, Van Dam recommends they make the most of that application with MasterLock.

“If you're going to spend the money on the fungicide, let's get it to where it needs to go and then let's make it stick there.  MasterLock will help with both actions.”

As a modern technology, MasterLock is also extremely effective at low doses. The use rate is 0.3% to 0.5% volume per volume in ten gallons of water.

“A common question we're getting is when do I use the lower rate or the higher rates of that range? The important thing to remember is always read and follow label directions. The guideline that we've seen in our research is to take the product label’s percent of NIS and add 0.2% to it and that'll get you in range for the Masterlock usage,” says Van Dam.

MasterLock was developed entirely in-house by Winfield United scientists at their Innovation Center in River Falls, Wisconsin, and it is  produced in North America at a WinField United production facility in Iowa. This unique and patented formulation of new technology is backed by 10 years of proven performance in the U.S.
“It's been applied on about 50 million acres in the U.S., so we feel very confident in its performance in Canada,” shares Van Dam.

As you are planning your fungicide don’t forget to buy the perfect partner.

“MasterLock meets your NIS requirements and helps to reduce spray drift, bringing convenience at a competitive price point. And its cutting-edge adjuvant technology that’ll benefit farmers right across Canada,” says Van Dam.
