What’s Your Field’s Yield Potential?

Farmers talking outside next to a corn field

Yield is often seen as the common benchmark of success among most farmers. But maximizing return on your investment potential should always trump your yield goals. One way to do that is by matching the yield potential of your fields and your management style to the seed you select.

Manage each field individually

Every field has different characteristics that affect yield potential. So to optimize your return on investment (ROI) potential across your operation, you’ll need to identify where to spend and where to pull back the reigns on management.

When you choose your seed, take into account what type of yield your field can support. There’s no need to spend a premium on seed that has 300-bushel-per-acre potential if your field’s top-end potential is only 120 bushels per acre. Instead, on those less productive acres, opt for seed products that require less management but still offer the yield potential that matches what your field can support.

The WinField® United seed portfolio offers a diverse lineup of products to fit each unique field. Because we’re able to source our genetics from a wide variety of suppliers, our products can help you manage risk across your farm. We also understand that you need more choice and economical options. That’s why we offer a tiered pricing structure based on how each product is expected to perform on your farm. That means you’ll be able to save money on seed for those less productive acres while still benefitting from the latest genetics and traits.

Take advantage of resources to help make decisions

Finding a trusted resource can help make your seed purchase process much simpler. For example, referencing a trusted data set can give you a detailed picture of how hybrids and varieties may perform on your acres. Each year, WinField United tests all of our seed products, along with many products from our partner brands, in our Answer Plot® program. We collect over 6 million data points annually to help you understand how seed products will perform and how to manage them to get the most return on your investment. We’ll be updating harvest results for 2020 soon, so be sure to check with your retailer or visit answerplot.com for the latest yield data for your area.

Your local WinField United retailer may also be able to offer the Advanced Acre® Rx program for the 2021 planting season. It’s a season-long prescription program that includes customized recommendations for seed and crop inputs as well as in-season management advice. The program also includes a service performance warranty on the chance you don’t meet set yield thresholds. Enrolling in Advanced Acre Rx can simplify your purchase decisions and help improve your profitability potential.

As you continue planning for next season, use what you know about your fields to match complementary products and inputs to maximize ROI potential. Your local WinField United retailer is dedicated to helping you achieve success in 2021.

Important: Before use always read and follow label instructions. Crop performance is dependent on several factors many of which are beyond the control of WinField United, including without limitation, soil type, pest pressures, agronomic practices, and weather conditions. Growers are encouraged to consider data from multiple locations, over multiple years, and be mindful of how such agronomic conditions could impact results.
