Scout Pro

I started using the Scout Pro app this year, and have been out scouting with it numerous times now that crops are starting to grow. It is very intuitive and user-friendly.

The university information allows you to walk a field and easily identify any weed, insect or disease, even if you don’t have any prior experience in identifying them. In addition to assisting with pest identification, it provides the opportunity to capture photos, and then georeference them to the spot in the field where they were taken.

This app ties nicely into any precision ag platform. It allows users to scout fields where they have done variable rate plans to check stand counts for trial validation.

I’ve found the ability to create notes and connect them to specific spots in the field to be very helpful. This allows you to create detailed field reports to bring back to the grower.

The only limitation I’ve experienced is not being able to leverage in-season imagery as background information for choosing where to scout in the field.

The Bottom Line:
Scout Pro is easy to use and works well with any precision platform. The information it contains, combined with the built-in features, make it a helpful tool for people with varying levels of experience and knowledge.
